I think there are assumptions made when a devotional book is written by the author. For example the reader needs uplifting or is going through adversity. while the author gives verses that will generally lead to having faith in your walk they don't really cover why a believer should have faith. When reading the bible you will understand roots or doctrine of why faith is so important.<br />For example how Paul goes all the way back to Abraham and his faith in Gods promise to explain new testament truths on law and grace. When we have our doctrines sound you almost don't need the devotional in terms of uplifting because your life in daily walk takes on the Galatians 2:20 . I am crucified with Christ nevertheless I live yet not I but Christ lives in me and the life I now live I live by the faith of the son of who loved me and gave himself for me.
